Rivers History

1863-1960

The Paddles Operation is born in the back of a property in Charlton. Founded by Joe Paddle and his sons, the company started as a shoe manufacturer and wholesaler. In 1960 the Paddle Brothers operation moved to Ballarat, allowing them to produce footwear on a larger scale.

1979-1999

Rivers is born. Formed partnerships with Diana Ferrari in Sebastopol and wholesaled to the likes of Grace Bros, Myer, David Jones and Betts. Our first retail store opened on George Street, Sydney in 1983 selling men's footwear. Followed shortly by our Pitt Street store.

In 1991, we introduced with Women's Boat shoe to Australia. By 1993 Rivers had over 50 stores Australia wide and introduced it's first men's apparel range.

Rivers went digital in 1999, launching one of the first retailer websites in Australia.

2000-2018

Rivers welcomed the 2000's with the launch of our Women's apparel range. In keeping with the 00's theme, we celebrated the opening our 100th store that same year.

In 2013 Rivers was purchased by the Specialty Fashion Group allowing us to grow with our new sister brands: Autograph, Katies, Crossroads and Millers. New websites were launched, concept stores were created in Watergardens and Logan and Rivers confirmed it's commitment to quality with our Men's Leather 2 Year Guarantee.

2018 saw big changes for Rivers as we were purchased by the Noni B Group who are committed to giving customers the best experience possible.

2019 AND BEYOND

With 134 stores and growing, Rivers turns the big 4-0. Our state of the art website is here to help you shop anywhere, anytime, on any device.
